Jackson Guthy's Interview With Seventeen Magazine
Seventeen: When did you start getting into music?
Jackson Guthy: I got started at a really young age. I was about two years old when I started playing the piano and around seven or eight when I started writing my own chords and putting words together.
17: You got to appear on Ellen. How did that happen?
JG: Ellen had heard some of my music and I was invited onto the show. She was a pleasure to work with and really, really cool. I had a blast.
17: What was it like playing the legendary Radio City Music Hall in New York City?
JG: It was unbelievable being on the tour with Big Time Rush and One Direction. The best part was seeing fans and making new ones. I loved going to new places. I really had the time of my life out there. Playing Radio City was definitely a highlight for my band and me.
17: What are your thoughts on other young teen pop stars in the industry right now, such as Justin Bieber and Cody Simpson?
JG: I think artists like Justin Bieber really opened up a door for younger artists to be respected in the industry. I really like what he did. I think my music is a lot different than what is already out there and people will be really attracted to it.
17: How do you balance going to school and working on your music?
JG: It was really cool being out on the road and doing school with my tutor over Skype or on the phone, but it can definitely be difficult. My education is the most important thing so I always have to make time for it.
17: How do your friends feel about your recent success and touring with Big Time Rush?
JG: My friends definitely think it’s cool. I have a really grounded group of friends, and they like me no matter what. I think it’s really important to know who your real friends are.
17: What other activities do you like besides playing music?
JG: I’ve been surfing almost as long as I’ve been playing music. I also love skateboarding and basketball.
17: Who are some artists that you would love to work with?
JG: Bruno Mars or John Mayer. They both have music that I really like and I look up to them and their careers.
17: What’s coming up next?
JG: My new single will be out soon, We’ll be doing a lot of press and radio. Hopefully we’ll get back out there this summer and do more touring.
